Acknowledgement: Thanks to Mr. Martin Derouin for the suggestion to use tubing, which made this project super easy! I used 1/8" aluminum tubing rather than brass.
IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER - The original activator cam plate, as supplied by Lionel, is spring-loaded, possibly to clear excessive rolling stock overhang. This FasTrack activator is not! Please test any motive power and rolling stock prior to use, to make sure the activator tube will not interfere or cause problems.
Here we go.
1. Bend tube to approximate shape of original cam plate.
2. Drill two 1/8" holes 5/8" from outside rail center appropriately spaced to length of tube activator. I used my cheapo drill press but I don't see why a hand held drill couldn't be used.
3. Insert tube, trimming ends to length as necessary. A drop of glue can be used to secure the tube to the roadbed.
4. If necessary, bend tube towards or away from the outside rail to center the Giraffe pin on the activator tube.
Have fun!
