I use Scenic Express for most of the ground cover and chicken grit tinted different shades for ballast on main lines, sidings, & yard areas.

nice weeds from scenic express. i will have to check them out as they really ad to making trackwork look realistic. i've heard of the chick grit thing. it no doubt looks perfect. how do you shade it? do you lay a bunch out on a board and spray paint it?
