An Erie GP-7 and an Erie Lackawanna FM Trainmaster sit idling awaiting their next assignment. A vintage Lackawanna Camelback rests quietly on one of the original tracks of the roundhouse. The roundhouse was destroyed by flames years ago but no one has ever fully removed the remains. A single stall engine house was erected and is all that is used today in the diesel era for service.

This looks like a scene from a real world as you describe, but could you post a shot that is in focus on the track & ballast work (the track ballast thread)?
I would really like to see some detail here as I am also going to do some of the same kind of work around an atlas turntable. And maybe a short description on how you did it and what you used. Looking forward to it. Thanks.

Dennis,

I hope these next couple shots help.
What I used was the track on the midwest cork roadbed. then I used "black Beauty" sand blasting material, I got mine at a local hardware store. It is a 100 lb bag for about 30 bucks. Then I experimented with a few different ground covers until I got the look of track that is starting to become grass covered. I got some dried floral material from ac moore / michaels for weeds. the roudhouse area is made from insulation board,, scribed bricks double thick walls, painted with ceramic paint, then hot glued to fit. Then balsa wood singed by flame and some weeds finish the look. I am still going to add more small details later.

any questions please let me know, I am going to make a thread that shows the start of the layout to today, with descriptions of each location like I did for the shots I have posted.

thanks
